MANILA, Oct. 15 — Artists from various parts of the Philippines will try to beat Iran’s longest painting on a continuous canvas when they simultaneously pick up their brushes on Monday, local media reported on Sunday.

The artists, in a feat timed to coincide with the celebration of national fish conservation week, would try to secure a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records, according to a report by Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The activity will be held simultaneously in 16 regions to beat Iran’s 3.4-kilometer mural, said Pamela Balaoing, information officer of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Cordillera, the agency supporting the activity.

Balaoing said the artists, led by members of the On the Spot Artists’ Association Inc. (OTSAA), want to create a mural more than six-kilometer long.

She said participants in the regions are tasked to use 200 meters of canvas to paint aquatic resources indigenous to their regions.

“We are not only doing this to beat the record of Iran but to promote awareness of the richness of our aquatic resources,” she said.

She said OTSAA has finished painting 3.4-kilometer of canvas. The completed canvas from other regions will be attached to OTSAA’s mural on Oct. 20 before it is officially measured. Enditem
